Anti-Virus

AVG Free Edition - Free anti virus program offering basic protection. Good detection rates and light on resources

Avast Free - Another free anti virus program offering basic protection. Again good detection rates and very light on resources

Avira Free- Yet Another free anti virus program offering basic protection. As with the 2 above good detection rates and light on resources

MSE Free - This free anti virus program is from Microsoft but we have not used it. The overall opinion seems to be that it is relatively good so we have added it here.

Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2011 (Not Free) -- One of only a few Security programs I would pay for. Good detection rates and the security suite has everything in one package (anti virus, firewall etc). Have had a few issues in the past with it slowing down the computer but overall very good.

Bit Defender Security Suite (Not Free) - Another product I have not used but is highly rated so gets put here.

Firewalls

Comodo Firewall Free - Provides users with prevention-based PC protection that slams the door shut on viruses, malware, and hackers.

Online Armour Free - Online Armour Free, Firewall Protection.

Malware/Spyware removal

Malwarebytes Free - Free and one of the best malware removal tools.

Superantispyware Free - Another highly effective spyware removal tool

Other Tools

Defraggler Free - Use Defraggler to defrag your entire hard drive, or individual files - unique in the industry.

Winrar Free - WinRAR is a powerful archive manager.
